- The upcoming upgraded Firefly EV is part of Nio Inc's intensive product updates.
- The upgrade follows Nio's strong delivery performance of over 35,000 vehicles in March.

Firefly, the boutique compact EV brand under Nio Inc, will launch an upgraded version of its currently sole model, the Firefly EV, on April 7, as the model approaches its one-year anniversary on the market.
Firefly said in an official statement on Friday that it will hold an upgrade launch event next Tuesday, which will kick off at 7:00 pm Beijing time.
The brand did not provide further details on the upgraded model, but hinted that owners of the current model will also receive "surprises."
The new model is expected to be equipped with a larger capacity power battery, and its motor power is also anticipated to see a significant upgrade, according to a Friday report by local media Yiche.
The upcoming upgraded Firefly EV is part of Nio Inc's intensive product updates.
The main Nio brand just launched its 2026 "5566" lineup yesterday, which includes the updated ET5, ET5 Touring, ES6, and EC6.
Following the Firefly upgrade, Nio will hold a technology launch event for its new flagship SUV (sport utility vehicle), the ES9, on April 9.
These moves come as Nio's monthly deliveries begin to show a significant rebound after experiencing the traditional slow sales season at the beginning of the year.
The company delivered a total of 35,486 new vehicles in March, representing a year-on-year increase of 135.96% and a month-on-month growth of 70.63 percent.
As the third independent brand under Nio, Firefly contributed 6,119 deliveries in March, achieving a substantial month-on-month growth of 130.3 percent.
The boutique compact car brand just reached a milestone of 50,000 cumulative deliveries at the end of last month, roughly 11 months after its first model officially hit the market.
The Firefly EV is the lowest-priced model under Nio Inc, currently carrying an official starting price of 119,800 yuan ($17,420) in its home market of China.
Serving as Nio's vanguard brand for international expansion, the compact model was recently officially launched in Thailand and won the "2026 World Urban Car" title at the World Car Awards during the New York International Auto Show.
To better support the sustainable development of sub-brands like Firefly, Nio is currently advancing the infrastructure construction of its fifth-generation battery swap stations network.
The company plans to launch the first batch of pioneer test stations in May, featuring a thoroughly redesigned underlying architecture capable of supporting Firefly's battery swap needs.
Although the Firefly EV supports battery swap, Nio's battery swap stations network has not yet been adapted for this model to date.
Regarding model updates, the Firefly team previously mentioned that they prefer a strategy of small, continuous evolution rather than the one-time major facelift approach used by traditional automakers.
This flexible product iteration approach aims to allow the vehicle's underlying software and core hardware to be continuously optimized and upgraded during users' daily usage.
