GAC Group has taken a new step forward in localizing production in Europe, accelerating its expansion strategy in the European market.

Following the Aion V, the Aion UT has become GAC's second EV model to go into production in Austria, according to a statement released by Magna on Thursday.

Through localized cooperation with Magna, GAC provides customized vehicles for European customers, aiming to bypass potential trade barriers and consolidate its market position.

GAC and Magna reached a broad partnership agreement in November 2025. The two parties are currently optimizing GAC's product lineup in Europe by integrating electrification technology and manufacturing expertise.

At that time, they launched the mass production of GAC's electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) model, the Aion V, at Magna's Graz plant. The facility boasts 125 years of manufacturing experience and has produced over 4 million vehicles cumulatively.

Earlier this month, the Aion UT made its debut at the Motion Expo auto show in Graz, Austria.

Magna's Austrian plant is emerging as a production hub for Chinese automakers expanding into Europe.

In addition to GAC, another Chinese automaker, Xpeng, has also chosen to conduct localized production here.

Xpeng's first localized production project in Europe was launched in September 2025 at Magna's Graz plant, where the first batch of Xpeng G6 and G9 SUVs rolled off the assembly line.

Earlier this year, Xpeng began producing the 2026 Xpeng P7+ electric sedan at the same Magna facility.

BYD's new car registrations in Europe reached 17,954 units in February, narrowly surpassing Tesla's 17,664 units once again.
