Nio Inc has officially launched the Firefly EV, the sole model under its premium compact electric vehicle brand Firefly, in Thailand after introducing the sub-brand in the Southeast Asian country earlier this month.
The right-hand drive version of the Firefly EV is officially priced at 799,000 baht ($24,460) in Thailand and made its formal debut at the 47th Bangkok International Motor Show.
Nio founder, chairman and CEO William Li posted on X on Tuesday, inviting Bangkok consumers to experience the brand up close and enjoy exclusive offers during the motor show.
The compact EV has a starting price of 119,800 yuan ($17,380) in its home market of China, making it the lowest-priced model under the Nio Inc umbrella.
Thailand is the second right-hand drive market Firefly has officially entered after Singapore, marking a further expansion of Nio's business footprint in Southeast Asia.
Entering the Thai market is a crucial part of Nio's strategy to bypass global trade barriers, aiming to seek commercial growth space unrestricted by punitive tariffs.
To gain a firm foothold in the local market, Nio has chosen to partner with Thonburi Blue Sky, a subsidiary of the renowned Thonburi Group, to serve as the general distributor in the country.
Nio vice president and Firefly president Daniel Jin said earlier this month that Thailand is the most dynamic and strategically significant market in Southeast Asia, which will become a driving force for Firefly's global growth.
The compact electric vehicle is fully imported from China and is equipped with a 42.1-kWh battery pack, delivering a range of 330 kilometers under the WLTP standard.
The model features a rear-wheel-drive layout with a 143-horsepower electric motor, capable of accelerating from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.1 seconds.
Firefly has currently entered 10 overseas markets and plans to gradually expand to auto markets in nearly 40 countries and regions across Europe, the Americas, and Southeast Asia in the future.
