Geely Auto's first rugged all-terrain SUV (sport utility vehicle) has been officially named the Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700, as the automaker sets its sights on the premium off-road market.

Geely Galaxy announced the naming on Friday, stating that the name was selected from more than 50,000 user proposals.

The model previously launched a global naming campaign on March 10, generating high engagement in a short period. The process is viewed as the latest attempt by Chinese automakers to strengthen brand communities and deepen connections with users.

Built on its comprehensive AI technology architecture, the Galaxy Cruiser 700 features an integrated body-on-frame structure and a tri-motor four-wheel-drive system. It aims to deliver both traditional off-road capabilities and a smart electric driving experience, the company previously said.

The new vehicle will be equipped with an AI-powered intelligent 4WD system, supporting automatic switching among front-wheel, rear-wheel, and four-wheel drive modes. It also features an active suspension and a crab-walk mode to enhance traversability and handling stability on complex terrains.

The model supports a maximum wading depth of 800 millimeters, approaching the performance levels of traditional hardcore off-roaders.

A roof-mounted LiDAR indicates the model will support advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and is expected to feature point-to-point commuting capabilities, reflecting a broader industry trend of integrating smart technology into off-road vehicles.

Geely previously said that the model has completed extreme cold-weather testing at the Colmis Proving Ground in Sweden and is currently undergoing multi-scenario validation globally. This rigorous process is typically used to verify the reliability of powertrains and battery performance under extreme conditions.

The Galaxy Cruiser 700 comes as Chinese automakers accelerate their expansion into the rugged SUV market, with local players including BYD and GWM having already launched multiple models in this segment.

Geely Auto reported a flat net income of 16.85 billion yuan ($2.45 billion), which still beat analyst estimates.
