Xpeng has adjusted the trim levels of its new-generation P7 sedan, lowering the starting price and offering more flexible options to boost demand.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker launched three new P7 Max variants on Wednesday evening to replace the three previously lower-priced Ultra variants.

The move cuts the model's starting price to 203,800 yuan ($29,650), a 16,000 yuan drop, while retaining the top-trim variant priced at 301,800 yuan.

Under the new strategy, the three Max variants will come standard with one Turing AI smart driving chip developed by Xpeng, instead of the three chips standard on the previous Ultra versions.

It allows customers to pay RMB 12,000 to upgrade to the Ultra SE version equipped with two chips, or pay RMB 20,000 to get the Ultra version with three chips.

This flexible hardware pricing strategy reflects Xpeng's ongoing business model adjustment, as the company begins to offer tiered, paid smart driving options for its models.

The strategic shift occurs against the backdrop of a sharp decline in market demand for the new-generation P7, prompting the company to rethink its product positioning and pricing structure.

In September 2025, its first full month on the market, the new-generation P7 delivered a peak of 8,110 units, but its sales subsequently continued to slide, plunging to just 681 units in February this year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

In addition to adjusting trim levels and prices, Xpeng also introduced three new exterior colors — red, black, and white — for the P7 at Wednesday evening's event.

These new color options expand the model's exterior choices to 10, aiming to attract fashion-conscious young consumers with a more personalized style.

Xpeng delivered a total of 15,256 vehicles in February, down 49.90% year-on-year and 23.76% from the previous month.

The company is scheduled to report its fourth-quarter 2025 financial results on March 20, with the market focusing on whether it can achieve quarterly profitability and its upcoming delivery guidance.

In January, some local media reported that Xpeng's full-year delivery target for 2026 is 550,000 to 600,000 vehicles, representing a growth of about 28.1%to 39.7% compared to the 429,400 units delivered in 2025.
