Geely Auto has entered the Hungarian market as the Chinese automaker seeks to further expand its business footprint in the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region.

The company announced its entry into Hungary on March 13 at the AMTS Auto Show, one of the largest auto shows in the CEE region, where it showcased two key Europe-oriented EV models, according to a statement released on Monday.

The models brought to the exhibition stand included the Geely E5 and Geely Starray EM-i, both sport utility vehicles (SUVs). They are named Geely EX5 and Geely EX5 EM-i in some other regions.

Geely plans to introduce more EV models to the local market and will gradually improve its local sales network, the company said.

The expansion into the Hungarian market comes as the Hangzhou, Zhejiang-based auto giant records a surge in exports.

Geely saw its February exports reach a record 60,879 units, a year-on-year increase of 138.26%, according to data released on March 1.

This strong overseas market performance helped the company achieve a 0.61% overall sales growth during the traditional off-season in February, bringing its total global sales for the month to 206,160 units.

Sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in February jumped significantly by 89.31% to 49,656 units, while sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) slipped by 6.05% to 67,832 units.
