BYD plans to install its first batch of flash-charging stations outside of China in the coming weeks, capable of delivering up to 1,500 kilowatts of power to a single EV, according to a report by InsideEVs on Monday.
The timing coincides with the launch of the updated Denza Z9GT in the European market; the EV model will make its European debut in Paris on April 8, the report noted.
The updated Denza Z9GT is now powered by BYD's latest second-generation blade battery pack, a new type of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery capable of handling the massive power input provided by the new flash-charging stations.
BYD said these new technologies can boost the vehicle's charge level from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes, and from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes.
Notably, it remains unclear whether these statistics will translate to the performance of the European version of the Denza Z9GT, the report said.
BYD has remained tight-lipped on the specific deployment details of its flash chargers in Europe, stating that the first wave of regional installations will be announced in due course, according to InsideEVs.
On March 5, BYD launched its second-generation blade battery alongside its flash charging technology capable of up to 1,500 kW, breaking charging speed records.
The company announced at the time that it plans to build 20,000 flash charging stations in China by the end of this year, and aims to introduce the stations to overseas markets by the end of 2026 to realize its "Flash Charging Planet" vision.
The first batch of vehicles equipped with flash charging technology includes 10 models from BYD's main and sub-brands.
Among them, the Yangwang U7 features a 150-kWh battery pack with a pure electric range of 1,006 kilometers, while the updated Denza Z9GT boasts a pure electric range of up to 1,036 kilometers.
On March 13, deliveries of the updated Denza Z9GT began in China.
