Deliveries for Xiaomi's electric vehicle (EV) unit, Xiaomi EV, slumped in February as shipments of its SU7 electric sedan hit a record low amid a transition to a newer model.

Xiaomi EV delivered 20,414 vehicles in February, down 13.97% from 23,728 units a year earlier and a significant 47.66% plunge from 39,002 units in January, according to data released Thursday by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The company previously said on March 1 that its deliveries in January exceeded 20,000 units, though it did not disclose exact figures at the time. The Chinese New Year holiday in February also impacted vehicle deliveries.

The YU7 sport utility vehicle (SUV) dominated the sales mix, delivering 20,196 units in February and accounting for 97.73% of Xiaomi EV's total deliveries for the month.

This reliance on a single model comes during a transition period for its sedan lineup. Xiaomi is currently depending heavily on the YU7 — an SUV that launched in June 2025 and widely considered a competitor to Tesla's Model Y — to sustain sales.

Meanwhile, deliveries of the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan series continued to slide, plunging to just 218 units in February, the lowest monthly figure since the SU7's launch.

This represents a 99.08% year-on-year collapse and an 80.76% drop from January.

To manage this transition, Xiaomi halted production of the first-generation SU7 last month. Cumulative deliveries of the first-generation SU7 have exceeded 381,000 units since its market debut.

Xiaomi's founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun announced earlier today on Weibo that the official launch of the next-generation SU7 has been moved up to this month, earlier than the previously planned April rollout.

Xiaomi is currently ramping up preparations for the mass production of the new SU7. Local media outlet 21jingji reported on Thursday that the Xiaomi EV factory's current average daily shipment of the SU7 is about 800 units, implying that its March production buildup could reach 16,000 vehicles.

Xiaomi EV began pre-sales for the updated SU7 on January 7 with a starting presale price of 229,900 yuan ($33,480), a 6.48% increase from its predecessor's 215,900 yuan.

This price hike narrows the gap with the starting price of Tesla's Model 3 to just 5,600 yuan, intensifying direct competition.

However, it is customary in the Chinese EV industry for final retail prices to undercut pre-sales prices, leaving room for suspense regarding the pricing at the official launch.

Xiaomi CEO announced the revamped SU7 sedan will be launched this month, earlier than the previously planned April.
