- The mass production of the Volkswagen ID.UNYX 08 marks an important milestone in Volkswagen's EV offensive in China.
- Volkswagen will launch electrified products at "China speed" this year, with an average of one all-new EV model hitting the market every two weeks.

The first jointly developed model by Volkswagen and Xpeng, the ID.UNYX 08, officially rolled off the production line today at the German automaker's joint venture plant in Anhui, marking the start of mass production for this highly anticipated electric SUV (sport utility vehicle).
Volkswagen announced the progress in a statement on Friday, saying that the ID.UNYX 08 is expected to hit the market in the first half of this year.
Volkswagen Anhui, a joint venture established by Volkswagen and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC) in 2017, is Volkswagen's first joint venture in China focused exclusively on new energy vehicles (NEVs).
Volkswagen's local R&D team in China completed the highly complex development work in just 24 months, and the new vehicle integrates German technology, the automaker said.
The ID.UNYX 08 is an important milestone in Volkswagen's largest-ever NEV product offensive in China, said Ralf Brandstätter, chairman and CEO of Volkswagen Group China.
Volkswagen will launch electrified products at "China speed" this year, with an average of one all-new EV model hitting the market every two weeks, he added.
The ID.UNYX 08 measures 5,000 mm in length, 1,954 mm in width, and 1,688 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm, according to regulatory filing information from November 2025.
The EV will be equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by CATL and will support 800 V fast-charging technology.
On July 26, 2023, Volkswagen announced a $700 million investment in Xpeng to jointly develop two B-class battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to be sold under the Volkswagen brand in the Chinese market, with production expected to begin in 2026.
Since then, the two parties have announced multiple expansions of their partnership.
As a key component of their partnership, Volkswagen will become the first commercial customer for Xpeng's self-developed Turing chip, which delivers 750 TOPS of computing power per chip.
Volkswagen did not mention whether the ID.UNYX 08 will utilize Xpeng's Turing AI chip, but said that the model comes standard with 1,500 TOPS computing power and Xpeng's Vision-Language-Action (VLA) smart driving solution.
