Sales momentum for Nio Inc's third-generation ES8 is continuing, with the electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) set to reach its 80,000th delivery in late March.

Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong mentioned the target in response to a question from CnEVPost during a small-scale media briefing at Nio's Shanghai headquarters Wednesday, signaling that ES8 orders remain robust.

Previously on February 27, Nio just completed the delivery of the 70,000th third-generation ES8. The latest target implies that the new SUV is on track to see deliveries exceed 10,000 units again in March.

The milestone follows a historic financial turnaround for the company. Yesterday, Nio reported a GAAP operating profit of 807.3 million yuan ($115.4 million) for the fourth quarter of 2025.

This marked the company's first-ever quarterly profit since its inception, a result significantly driven by strong deliveries of the high-margin third-generation ES8.

The recovery of new ES8 orders has been very good following the end of the Chinese New Year holiday in late February, Qin said in response to CnEVPost.

The 2026 Chinese New Year holiday fell between February 15 and 23, a period that typically disrupts auto production and deliveries, creating a traditional slow season for China’s automotive industry.

Despite the seasonal headwinds, retail sales of the third-generation ES8 still reached 11,260 units in February, Nio said earlier today on Weibo.

The model ranked first in sales in China's large SUV market and among models priced above 400,000 yuan for the third consecutive month, Nio noted.

The ES8 led China's large three-row SUV market in February, ranking first across all energy forms, the company said.

The third-generation ES8 contributed 54.14% of the company's total deliveries in February, according to data released by Nio on March 1.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, the SUV, which starts at 406,800 yuan, delivered 39,697 units, accounting for 32% of the company's record total deliveries during the same period, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

In yesterday's earnings report, Nio guided for first-quarter vehicle deliveries to be between 80,000 and 83,000 units, representing an increase of about 90.1% to 97.2% from the same period in 2025. This means Nio currently expects to deliver about 32,021 to 35,021 vehicles in March.

Nio achieved profit from operations of 807.3 million yuan ($115.4 million) in the fourth quarter, marking its first quarterly profit since inception.
