Chinese autonomous driving tech company WeRide announced Monday that it is deepening its strategic partnership with Farizon, the commercial vehicle division of Geely.
The two companies plan to deliver 2,000 factory-installed, mass-produced GXR robotaxis to domestic and overseas markets in 2026, marking a new phase of global, large-scale commercial operations for the autonomous driving startup.
The upgraded GXR robotaxi is expected to officially roll off the production line in the third quarter of 2026. This ambitious delivery plan indicates that WeRide's commercialization of autonomous driving is accelerating significantly.
Leveraging Geely Farizon's manufacturing system, the production time for a single vehicle to roll off the line will be drastically reduced from one hour to under 10 minutes, according to WeRide.
These new vehicles will be equipped with GEN8, WeRide's latest generation of autonomous driving sensor suites. The system utilizes a thousand-channel primary LiDAR, which enhances point cloud detail by 17 times and offers a maximum detection range of up to 600 meters.
As the company continues to push for manufacturing cost reductions, the overall vehicle cost of the upgraded model is expected to drop by a further 15%, according to WeRide.
As of January 2026, WeRide's global robotaxi fleet had reached 1,023 vehicles, according to data released by the company in January.
With the delivery of these new vehicles, the company's global fleet in operation will exceed 2,600 units this year. This represents steady progress toward its goal of establishing a global fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles by 2030.
The company plans to leverage its technological synergies with Farizon to accelerate commercial deployment across China, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
WeRide's robotaxi fleet in Abu Dhabi is currently approaching a break-even point on a per-vehicle basis, according to earlier reports. The company's trial operations in Singapore will also officially open to the public on April 1 this year.
