Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) is accelerating its global expansion, officially launching its premium compact electric vehicle (EV) brand Firefly in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.

This marks the brand's second right-hand drive (RHD) market following its entry into Singapore in January, signaling a further expansion of Nio's business footprint in Southeast Asia.

The foray into Thailand is a key part of Nio's strategy to bypass global trade barriers, aiming to seek commercial growth space free from punitive tariffs.

To gain a firm foothold in Thailand, Nio has partnered with Thonburi BlueSky, a subsidiary of the prominent Thai conglomerate Thonburi Group, appointing it as the general distributor.

As a well-known Mercedes-Benz assembler in Southeast Asia, Thonburi Group boasts advantages in luxury vehicle manufacturing, advanced battery assembly, and a nationwide after-sales service network.

Thailand is far more than just another market for Firefly; it is the most dynamic and strategic market in Southeast Asia, said Daniel Jin, Nio vice president and president of Firefly.

"It will be a driving force in our global growth, amplifying our presence in Asia, connecting us with new communities, and proving that good design and urban freedom resonate everywhere," Jin said.

Since debuting its RHD model at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2025, the Firefly brand has been accelerating its commercial push into global RHD markets.

The brand has currently entered 10 overseas markets and plans to gradually expand to nearly 40 automotive markets across Europe, the Americas, and Southeast Asia, according to a Nio statement.

Firefly focuses on urban mobility, emphasizing active and passive safety, original design, ingenious space solutions, and smart, convenient features.

Its current sole model, the Firefly EV, features a rear-wheel-drive layout with a tight turning radius. It is equipped with a 42-kWh battery pack that delivers a range of up to 420 kilometers.

To further boost local brand awareness and market influence, Firefly's RHD model will also make its official appearance at the upcoming 47th Bangkok International Motor Show.
