Qijing, a new brand jointly created by Huawei and GAC Group (HKG: 2238), announced that its first new vehicle will be unveiled on March 17.

Positioned as a new-generation smart shooting brake coupe, the model marks the materialization of the two companies' partnership in autonomous driving and chassis technology.

Qijing said on Thursday that the coupe, dubbed a "new species in the AI era," will be equipped with multiple industry-leading smart hardware components.

It features the world's highest-spec mass-produced 896-channel LiDAR and is equipped with the HarmonySpace smart cockpit.

The new car will also adopt Huawei's XMC digital engine chassis, with an underlying architecture supporting future-oriented Level 3 autonomous driving.

The model has already completed key validations, including extreme cold winter testing. GAC had said the new car will officially launch in the market this June.

The shooting brake supports a five-dimensional motion vector control technology, achieving precise coordination among its three motors, suspension, and steering, according to official teasers.

This deep integration of software and hardware allows the vehicle to consistently maintain a faster and more stable posture during high-speed cornering.

GAC officially unveiled the Qijing brand on September 19, 2025, with the primary goal of capturing a share in China's growing premium EV market.

The brand is currently led by auto industry veteran Liu Jiaming as CEO, who previously held key positions at core enterprises such as GAC Toyota.

In a Q&A posted on Weibo on December 22 last year, Qijing said that its first model is a shooting brake-style coupe, expected to hit the market in June 2026.

Shooting brakes were once a niche market in China, but the unprecedented success of the Zeekr 001 has proven the massive hidden commercial value in this segment.

Qijing previously claimed it is committed to building a flagship model that rivals the driving and riding experience of a 1 million yuan ($145,000) vehicle, hoping to stand out in this sub-market.

The 896-channel LiDAR equipped on the car represents the latest technology from Huawei's Qiankun, directly upgrading perception capabilities from the point-cloud level to the image level.

The LiDAR system can accurately identify small objects just 14 centimeters high from 120 meters away, with a point cloud volume seven times that of mainstream 128-channel products, Huawei said yesterday.
