Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV, HKG: 9868) officially launched the 2026 X9 pure-electric MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) with a significantly lower starting price than its predecessor, as the company seeks to boost sales in the premium market.

The new pure-electric X9 starts at 309,800 yuan, matching the price of the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version launched late last year.

This represents a 50,000 yuan, or 13.90%, reduction from the previous pure-electric X9's starting price of 359,800 yuan, underscoring its aggressive pricing strategy.

Just one day before the new model's launch, the company reported February deliveries plunged nearly 50% year-on-year to 15,256 units, partly impacted by the Chinese New Year holiday.

The 2026 X9 pure-electric MPV features an 800-volt high-voltage platform and 5C ultra-fast charging battery as standard across all trims, extending its maximum pure-electric range to 750 kilometers.

Xpeng said this makes the X9 the world's longest-range pure-electric seven-seater supporting 5C charging.

Specifically, the updated X9 battery electric vehicle (BEV) offers five variants with starting prices of 309,800 yuan, 321,800 yuan, 329,800 yuan, 349,800 yuan, and 369,800 yuan.

The updated X9 BEV shares identical dimensions with the EREV version: 5,293 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, 1,785 mm in height, and a 3,160 mm wheelbase.

All variants come standard with Xpeng's in-house developed Turing AI chip, delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of computing power to significantly enhance smart driving capabilities.

Similar to its approach when updating 4 other models in early January, Xpeng has equiped the highest-priced variant with three Turing AI chips, while the lowest-priced model features only one.

Xpeng also announced today its deployment plan for the second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA 2.0) smart driving solution, stating it will begin rolling out to vehicles in late March.

VLA 2.0 reconstructs the model paradigm, targeting the ultimate goal of Level 4 autonomous driving, the company said.

Late last month, Xpeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng announced that Volkswagen has become the first commercial customer for the VLA 2.0 solution.

Xpeng is attempting to maintain its growth momentum and profit margins amid intense competition by expanding its premium product lineup.

To broaden its market reach, the company is accelerating its dual-power strategy combining BEV and EREV.

Despite delivery sluggishness earlier this year due to seasonal factors, Xpeng has set aggressive targets for 2026.

Xpeng aims to deliver 550,000 to 600,000 vehicles in 2026, representing about 28.1% to 39.7% growth compared to its 2025 delivery volume of 429,400 units, according to a January report by local media outlet 36Kr.

Xpeng will launch 4 new SUV models this year: the Xpeng G01, Xpeng G02, and the Mona series D02 and D03, the report cited supply chain sources as saying.

In last month's internal letter, Mr. He said the company expects its overseas sales to double in 2026.

Xpeng has set a 2030 overseas sales target of 1 million vehicles, with overseas operations expected to contribute over 70% of profits by that time, the CEO said at the time.
