Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) maintains robust momentum for its flagship SUV (sport utility vehicle), the all-new ES8, despite renewed supply chain challenges.

Nio completed the delivery of its 70,000th third-generation ES8 on Friday in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, further solidifying its position in China's premium electric vehicle market.

The milestone comes less than a month after the model surpassed the 60,000-unit delivery mark on February 1.

The all-new ES8 achieved retail sales of 17,645 units in January, securing its position as China's best-selling large SUV and top-selling model priced above RMB 400,000 ($58,340) for two consecutive months, Nio said on its official Weibo account.

This signals the golden age of pure-electric large three-row SUVs has arrived, Nio said.

As the core profit engine in Nio's current product lineup, the ES8 — with a starting price of RMB 406,800 — has provided a crucial boost to the company's financial health.

In December last year, the model delivered over 22,000 units in a single month, accounting for nearly 65% of Nio Inc's total monthly deliveries, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Buoyed by this high-margin model's robust performance, Nio forecasted earlier this month that it expects to achieve its first-ever quarterly profit in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Nio announced yesterday that it will release its unaudited financial results for the fourth quarter and the full year 2025 before US market hours on March 10.

Notably, this sales achievement was attained amid supply chain pressures.

Nio recently confirmed that due to a shortage of signal processing chips for its audio system, the ES8 models produced starting next month will have to adopt a temporary alternative technical solution.

This marks the second time production of this model has been adjusted since its launch due to chip supply constraints. However, supply chain challenges do not appear to have significantly dampened demand for the vehicle.

While the ES8 continues to expand its share in the premium market, Nio is preparing to further elevate its product lineup.

Qin Lihong, Nio's co-founder and president, recently revealed that the all-new flagship SUV ES9 — positioned higher and larger — is expected to debut in April, officially launch in late May, and commence deliveries on June 1.

Several Chinese investors will inject RMB 2.257 billion ($330 million) into Nio's chip business, valuing the operation at about RMB 8.27 billion.
