Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV, HKG: 9868) announced Wednesday that the updated battery electric vehicle (BEV) version of its X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) will be officially launched on March 2.

In China's fiercely competitive market, the Guangzhou-based EV maker is seeking to further solidify its share in the premium family mobility segment by upgrading the vehicle's intelligent features and range.

The 2026 X9 BEV will fully align with the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version of the X9 launched in November 2025 in terms of energy efficiency, space, safety, and comfort, Xpeng said on Weibo.

The new X9 BEV boasts a maximum CLTC range of 750 kilometers, which Xpeng claims makes it "the world's longest-range pure-electric seven-seater."

The 2026 X9 BEV will be equipped with an 800V high-voltage platform, 5C ultra-fast charging capability, active rear-wheel steering, and dual-chamber air suspension.

The model will feature the company's in-house developed Turing AI chip, delivering a maximum computing power of 2250 TOPS for its smart driving system.

Pre-orders for the 2026 X9 BEV commenced in late January, though pricing details remain undisclosed.

This marks a strategic deepening of Xpeng's "BEV+EREV" dual-powertrain transition. Last November, the company launched the extended-range variant of the X9 starting at RMB 309,800 ($45,080) to address Chinese consumers' demand for vehicles eliminating range anxiety.

The X9 was initially launched in China on January 1, 2024, as Xpeng's first MPV, available only as a BEV at that time.

The 2025 X9 BEV was launched in April 2025 with a starting price of RMB 359,800.

As Xpeng's inaugural MPV, the X9 delivered 26,017 units throughout 2025, accounting for 6.06% of the company's total deliveries, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Xpeng achieved a 126% year-on-year surge in deliveries in 2025, reaching nearly 430,000 units and fulfilling its goal of doubling annual deliveries.

To sustain this robust growth momentum, company management plans to intensively launch multiple new models in 2026, encompassing both pure-electric and extended-range variants.

Previous media reports indicate Xpeng has set its 2026 annual delivery target between 550,000 and 600,000 units.

Volkswagen's adoption of Xpeng's VLA 2.0 as its smart driving solution signifies the partnership's expansion into AI software capabilities.
