BYD surpasses 5,000 vehicles sold in Vietnam

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has surpassed 5,000 units sold in Vietnam, marking a milestone for the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker in the Southeast Asian market.

In 2025 — BYD's first full year in the Vietnamese market — the company sold 3,718 vehicles in in the country, according to a report by automotive media outlet Yiche on Tuesday.

In 2024, BYD sold 485 units in Vietnam.

The company entered the Vietnamese market in June 2024 and launched its first three models a month later: the compact hatchback Dolphin, the mid-size sedan Seal, and the compact crossover Atto 3, which is known as the Yuan Plus in China.

BYD currently offers nine models in Vietnam.

Last month, Vietnamese automaker Kim Long Motor announced a partnership with BYD to build a $130 million EV battery plant in Vietnam.

Located in Kim Long's industrial park, the facility will be constructed in two phases.

Phase one will have an annual capacity of 3 GWh, primarily supplying batteries for trucks, buses, vans, and other new energy commercial vehicles, aiming to expand regional market exports.

Phase two will scale up operations, increasing total annual capacity to 6 GWh.

BYD sold 4,602,436 NEVs in 2025, marking a 7.73% year-on-year increase.

The company sold 1,046,083 units overseas in 2025, a 150.74% year-on-year increase.

BYD targets overseas sales of 1.3 million units in 2026, the company told media including CnEVPost last month. This represents about 24% growth.

BYD's overseas plants in Thailand and Uzbekistan are already operational, while its Hungarian facility is nearing production launch.
