BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has entered Egypt's passenger vehicle market, expanding its footprint in North Africa.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker held a brand launch event in Egypt on February 4, announcing its official entry into the country, according to an announcement on Monday.

Leveraging a partnership with Egypt's Mansour Group, BYD launched three models locally: the BYD Dolphin, BYD Song Plus EV, and BYD Song Plus DM-i.

These models have been rebranded in Egypt as the BYD Dolphin Surf, BYD Sealion 6 EV, and BYD Sealion 6 DM-i respectively.

BYD expands into Egypt with 3 models

The BYD Dolphin starts at RMB 99,800 ($14,390) in China. The Song Plus series, previously part of BYD's Ocean lineup, is no longer sold in China.

BYD sold 4,602,436 NEVs in 2025, marking a 7.73% year-on-year increase.

Passenger NEVs accounted for 4,545,423 units in 2025, up 6.94% year-on-year. Commercial NEVs reached 57,013 units, surging 161.83% year-on-year.

BYD sold 1,046,083 vehicles overseas in 2025, a 150.74% increase year-on-year.

The company aims to achieve 1.3 million overseas sales in 2026, it told media including CnEVPost last month. This represents about 24% growth.

BYD's overseas plants in Thailand and Uzbekistan are already operational, while its Hungarian facility is nearing production.

The company's overseas market coverage spans over 110 countries and regions, including 30 markets in the Middle East and Africa.
