Global EV battery market share in 2025: CATL 39.2%, BYD 16.4%

For the full year 2025, CATL (HKG: 3750, SHE: 300750) and BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) continued to dominate the global electric vehicle (EV) battery market with a combined share exceeding 55%.

Global EV battery installations reached 1,187 GWh in 2025, a 31.7% increase from 901.4 GWh in the same period last year, according to data released Wednesday by South Korean market research firm SNE Research.

CATL's EV battery installations in 2025 totaled 464.7 GWh, a 35.7% increase from 342.5 GWh in the same period of 2024.

The Chinese battery giant maintained its position as the world's top supplier in 2025 with a 39.2% market share, remaining the only battery provider globally with over 30% market share.

This surpasses its 38.0% share in 2024 and also exceeds its 38.2% share for January-November 2025.

BYD's EV battery installations reached 194.8 GWh in 2025, a 27.7% increase from 152.6 GWh in the same period of 2024.

The company ranked second in 2025 with a 16.4% share, down from 16.9% in 2024 and also below its 16.7% share for January-November 2025.

LG Energy Solution's 2025 battery installations reached 108.8 GWh, marking an 11.3% year-on-year increase.

The South Korean company maintained its third-place position in 2025 with a 9.2% market share, down from 10.9% in the same period of 2024 and also below the 9.3% share recorded from January to November 2025.

China's CALB (HKG: 3931) ranked fourth with 62.8 GWh of installations and a 5.3% share.

China's Gotion High-tech came in fifth with a 4.5% share, while South Korea's SK On ranked sixth with a 3.7% share.

Japan's Panasonic, China's Eve Energy, South Korea's Samsung SDI, and China's Svolt Energy ranked seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth respectively, with market shares of 3.7%, 2.6%, 2.4%, and 2.4% in 2025.

Notably, during January-November, Svolt Energy ranked ninth with a 2.6% share, above Samsung SDI.

CATL's domestic power battery installations in China totaled 333.57 GWh in 2025, powering 5.07 million vehicles.
