Nio Inc's (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) premium compact car brand Firefly has commenced deliveries in Singapore, following its official entry into the city-state earlier last month.
The first batch of right-hand-drive Firefly models was formally delivered in Singapore on Sunday, the Nio sub-brand announced on Weibo.
Firefly did not disclose the number of vehicles delivered in the initial batch.
Firefly debuted the right-hand drive version of the Firefly EV at the Singapore Motorshow 2026 on January 8 and began accepting pre-orders. This makes Singapore the first market to get the right-hand drive Firefly EV.
Nio partners with local automotive retailer Wearnes Automotive, established in 1906, which represents and retails multiple premium and luxury brands, in Singapore.
This mirrors the company's strategy in several other markets, as it increasingly relies on distributors overseas rather than a capital-intensive direct sales model.
The first local Firefly showroom opened in late January.
Nio planned to continue its overseas expansion this year through distributor partnerships, using Firefly as its pioneer brand, the company previously said. It aims to expand its international footprint to 40 countries and regions by year-end.
Nio officially launched the Firefly brand at Nio Day 2024 on December 21, 2024, positioning it to compete with Mini and Smart. The brand's namesake model, the Firefly EV, was launched in China on April 19, 2025.
The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker originally planned to launch Firefly models in Europe first. However, following the EU's imposition of additional tariffs on Chinese battery electric vehicles (BEVs), it shifted strategy to roll out the model in China first.
Firefly has commenced deliveries in Europe, featuring left-hand drive models as in China.
Nio Inc delivered 27,182 vehicles in January, marking a 96.08% year-on-year increase, though down 43.53% from December, according to data released earlier today.
Firefly delivered 2,807 vehicles in January, a 60.38% decline from December.
