Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) delivered its 60,000th third-generation ES8 SUV (sport utility vehicle), two weeks after reaching the 50,000th unit.
Yang Bo, head of user operations at the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, announced on Weibo Sunday that the 60,000th new ES8 was delivered in Guangzhou.
Yang shared no further details beyond a single image. Nio is expected to announce its January delivery figures within hours.
Nio Inc delivered a record 48,135 vehicles in December, with the ES8 contributing 22,258 units, or 46.24%, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Nio officially launched the third-generation ES8 at Nio Day 2025 on September 20, 2025, with deliveries commencing the following day on September 21.
The three-row electric SUV offers six-seat and seven-seat configurations, starting at RMB 406,800 ($58,520) including the battery pack. It ranks among Nio's most expensive models and is one of the priciest offerings from domestic Chinese automakers.
On December 29, Nio reached the 40,000th delivery milestone for the third-generation ES8, fulfilling its 2025 delivery target for the model.
Due to production constraints, the initial delivery wait time for the third-generation ES8 was 24-26 weeks.
As production capacity increases and industry dynamics evolve, the wait time has steadily decreased and currently stands at 11-12 weeks, according to CnEVPost's daily monitoring.
The ES8's status as Nio's current flagship SUV will be replaced within months by the higher-priced ES9.
The ES9's technical launch event is tentatively scheduled for around April 10, Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong said during a user engagement event last month. The exact date may change.
This suggests the ES9 is poised to debut at the Beijing auto show in late April — one of the world's most anticipated biennial automotive events.
The ES9 appeared last month in a regulatory catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, revealing dimensions of 5,365 mm in length, 2,029 mm in width, and 1,870 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm.
These dimensions surpass those of the third-generation ES8, currently China's largest electric SUV at 5,280 mm long, 2,010 mm wide, 1,800 mm tall, with a 3,250 mm wheelbase.
The ES9 is expected to incorporate technologies shared with Nio's flagship executive sedan, the ET9, such as the SkyRide intelligent chassis system and two Nio-developed Shenji NX9031 autonomous driving chips.
The ET9 currently starts at RMB 768,000 in China, positioning it among the highest-priced models from domestic brands.
