Nio Inc's (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) compact electric vehicle (EV) brand Firefly has launched a new limited-edition Firefly EV in China, continuing a strategy employed multiple times.
The limited-edition Firefly EV, co-designed by Firefly and Dutch artist Jordy van den Nieuwendijk, has begun sales with a limited supply of 99 units.
It starts at RMB 95,800 ($13,750) under the BaaS (Battery as a Service) battery rental plan, with a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 399.
This represents a RMB 16,000 premium — or 20.05% — over the regular Firefly EV's BaaS starting price of RMB 79,800.
Firefly has not disclosed the price of this limited-edition model including the battery pack, suggesting it may only be available under the BaaS plan.
The two standard versions of the Firefly EV start at RMB 119,800 and RMB 125,800 respectively, including the battery pack.
The latest limited-edition Firefly EV features exterior and interior styling by van den Nieuwendijk, themed around a flying horse motif, with the Dutch artist's signature displayed on the body.
The Nio Life online store has also launched a series of winged horse-themed products designed by van den Nieuwendijk. The year 2026 marks the Year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac.
This marks one of several limited editions Firefly has launched over the past year for its sole current model, expanding brand awareness at a lower cost.
Firefly launched the Firefly EV on April 19, with deliveries in China commencing on April 29. The model has already begun deliveries in Europe and debuted its right-hand-drive version in Singapore earlier this month.
Firefly introduced limited editions for the Firefly in 2025, including the Nomadic Maillard and Night Creature editions.
