Leapmotor files for D19 large SUV, set for Apr launch

Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) has filed for its new D19 model, a large SUV (sport utility vehicle) slated for launch in April.

The D19 appeared in a vehicle catalog released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Thursday, revealing key specifications. The public can submit feedback on the catalog from January 9 to 15.

The D19 has two pages in the catalog, with product codes FZ6530BEVWD19A and FZ6530REEVWD19C. The former denotes the battery electric vehicle (BEV) variant, while the latter represents the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) model.

The SUV made its global debut in October 2025 as the first model in Leapmotor's D series. The latest filing information indicates it offers 6-seat and 7-seat configurations.

The D19 measures 5,252 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,800/1,780 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm.

The SUV's curb weight is 2,730/2,740/2,760/2,770 kg, with a maximum supported speed of 180 km/h.

The D19 EREV features a 1.5L engine serving as a range extender, delivering a maximum power output of 95 kW.

It features dual motors: the front motor delivers a maximum power of 100 kW, while the rear motor provides 200 kW.

The D19 BEV variant utilizes a front motor with a maximum power of 180 kW and a rear motor with 230 kW.

CATL (HKG: 3750, SHE: 300750) is listed as the sole battery supplier on the D19's filing page. The EREV version utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, while the BEV version employs LFP batteries alongside ternary lithium-ion batteries.

Leapmotor debuted the D19 on October 16, 2025, offering both EREV and BEV variants.

The company said at the time that the D19 BEV features a 115-kWh battery pack delivering up to 720 kilometers of range.

The D19 EREV utilizes an 80.3-kWh battery pack delivering up to 500 kilometers of range. This represents the largest battery pack capacity ever installed in an EREV model for the Chinese market.

Leapmotor unveiled its D99 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) on December 28, marking its first MPV model. During the event, it said the D19 will be officially launched and begin deliveries in April 2026.

Leapmotor has not disclosed pricing for the D19, but previously indicated the SUV targets a price point of RMB 300,000 ($42,980).
