Shangjie, the new automotive brand developed by SAIC Motor (SHA: 600104) and Huawei, previewed its upcoming Z7 model, hinting the sedan will directly challenge Xiaomi's (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) SU7.

Xiaomi's electric vehicle (EV) unit, Xiaomi EV, earlier today began pre-sales for the updated SU7 sedan, calling it the "next-generation SU7."

The updated SU7 starts at RMB 229,900 ($32,880), a RMB 14,000 or 6.48% increase over its predecessor's base price. Xiaomi EV said the model is expected to be launched in April.

Shangjie is the fifth automotive brand under Huawei's HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) umbrella, alongside Seres Group's Aito, Chery (HKG: 9973)'s Luxeed, BAIC Group's Stelato, and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC)'s Maextro.

On September 23, Shangjie launched its first model, the H5, with a starting price of RMB 159,800, making it the most affordable vehicle under Huawei HIMA's business.

The Shangjie H5 is a mid-size SUV measuring 4,780 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,664 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm.

It offers extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) options, similar to many other models under Huawei HIMA.

On December 9, the Shangjie H5 reached 20,000 units delivered, 78 days after its market launch.

Shangjie will launch at least two new models by 2026, SAIC chairman Wang Xiaoqiu said on December 9.
