China NEV retail sales up 5% year-on-year to 1.19 million in Dec 1-28

China's new energy vehicle (NEV) retail sales showed further improvement last week, slightly boosting the month's growth rate.

From December 1-28, China's passenger NEV retail sales came in at 1.192 million units, up 5 percent year-on-year and up 1 percent month-on-month, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

By comparison, passenger NEV retail sales from December 1-21 totaled 788,000 units, representing a 1 percent year-on-year increase.

Year-to-date, China's cumulative passenger NEV retail sales were 12.66 million units, up 18 percent year-on-year.

Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs from December 1-28 totaled 1.261 million units, down 4 percent year-on-year and down 16 percent month-on-month.

Year-to-date, China's cumulative passenger NEV wholesale sales were 15.02 million units, up 25 percent year-on-year.

From December 1 to 28, China's overall passenger vehicle retail sales totaled 1.928 million units, down 17 percent year-on-year and down 3 percent month-on-month.

Year-to-date, China's cumulative retail sales of all passenger vehicleswere 23.411 million units, a 4 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

This indicates that NEVs' retail penetration rate in China reached 61.8 percent during December 1-28 and 54.09 percent year-to-date.

During the first week of December, December 1-7, China's daily average passenger vehicle retail sales stood at 42,468 units, down 32 percent year-on-year and down 8 percent month-on-month.

During the second week of December, December 8-14, China's daily average passenger vehicle retail sales totaled 66,629 units, down 17 percent year-on-year but up 9 percent compared to the same period last month.

In the third week of December, December 15-21, China's daily average passenger vehicle retail sales totaled 76,551 units, down 11 percent year-on-year but up 9 percent compared to the same period last month.

During the fourth week of December, December 22-28, China's average daily passenger vehicle retail sales totaled 89,782 units, down 12 percent year-on-year and down 15 percent month-on-month.

From December 1-28, China's total passenger vehicle wholesale sales amounted to 2.134 million units, down 19 percent year-on-year and down 19 percent month-on-month.

From December 1-7, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger vehicles were 42,525 units, down 40 percent year-on-year and down 18 percent month-on-month.

From December 8-14, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger vehicles were 62,271 units, down 22 percent year-on-year and down 13 percent month-on-month.

From December 15-21, China's daily average wholesale sales of passenger vehicles totaled 81,144 units, down 9 percent year-on-year and down 11 percent month-on-month.

From December 22-28, China's daily average wholesale sales of passenger vehicles totaled 118,875 units, down 13 percent year-on-year and 26 percent month-on-month.

Year-to-date, China's passenger vehicle wholesale sales totaled 28.9 million units, an 8 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Analysts predict budget automakers like Leapmotor, BYD, and Geely will face the greatest impact.
