Qijing, the new brand jointly created by Huawei and GAC Group (HKG: 2238), has shared the first glimpse of its debut model as road testing commences.

Qijing announced yesterday evening that its shooting brake-style coupe has commenced road testing in China, subsequently sharing a video revealing the model's appearance despite camouflage wrapping.

The vehicle's styling bears some resemblance to Zeekr's (NYSE: ZK) Zeekr 001 -- China's first shooting brake-style model developed by a domestic brand. A LiDAR unit is mounted on its roof.

In the video, Qijing CEO Liu Jiaming said the model will utilize the latest technologies from Huawei's Qiankun intelligent vehicle solution unit, supporting Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities.

GAC officially launched the Qijing brand on September 19, targeting the premium EV market.

On September 25, the brand appointed automotive industry veteran Liu as CEO, who previously worked at GAC Toyota and GAC Group.

On December 22, Qijing said in a Q&A posted on Weibo that its first model is a shooting brake-style coupe, expected to be launched in June 2026.

The model will rival vehicles priced at the RMB 1 million ($142,280) level in terms of appearance, driving dynamics, and intelligence, the brand said.

Qijing and Huawei's Qiankun joint team are conducting in-depth final-stage product development integration to create a dream car built to the highest standards, it said.

In China, shooting brake-style vehicles have historically been a niche market with minimal attempts by domestic brands.

Zeekr launched its first model, the Zeekr 001 shooting brake, on April 15, 2021, achieving significant success and becoming its mainstay seller over the past years.

Since then, several other automakers including Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866), BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) have also introduced similar models.

Qijing is one of the new brands developed by Huawei with a Chinese automaker under a new approach, following the launch of five other brands under the Huawie HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business with partners.

Beyond Qijing, Huawei's collaboration with Dongfeng Motor (HKG: 0489, OTCMKTS: DNFGF) produced the new automotive brand Yijing, which saw its first production prototype roll off the line on December 22.
