Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) has achieved the 30,000th delivery of its third-generation ES8, 89 days after the large electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) went on sale.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced this milestone today, saying it makes the all-new ES8 the fastest pure-electric model priced above RMB 400,000 ($56,800) to reach the 30,000-unit delivery mark in China.

Nio officially launched the third-generation ES8 at Nio Day 2025 on September 20, with deliveries commencing the following day on September 21.

The three-row electric SUV offers six- and seven-seat configurations, with a starting price of RMB 406,800 ($57,770) including the battery pack. It ranks among Nio's most expensive models and is one of the highest-priced vehicles from a domestic Chinese automaker.

Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li pledged during the third-generation ES8 launch event that the production capacity for the model would reach about 40,000 units this year.

The delivery bottleneck for the third-generation ES8 lies in production capacity, not demand, as the entire 40,000-unit annual production capacity sold out on the second day of its launch.

Notably, the third-generation ES8 faced initial battery supply constraints during its launch phase. On September 29, Nio announced it would prioritize 100-kWh battery packs for ES8 production over battery swap stations to accelerate the SUV's deliveries.

Nio has not provided further updates on ES8 battery supply since then, though this likely no longer represents a bottleneck in recent months.

Earlier this month, Nio's sub-brand Onvo announced plans to double the number of available battery packs at swap stations, suggesting battery supply may no longer constrain Nio Inc.

However, Nio yesterday flagged a new production challenge -- chip shortages.

In a statement released yesterday via the Nio App, the company said that the chips for the rear-seat entertainment system in the all-new ES8 are facing supply shortages.

To ensure vehicle deliveries, all-new ES8 vehicles produced starting December 22 will adopt a new technical solution for this feature.

Nio is offering subsidies to affected customers and has committed to allowing them to switch to the conventional solution once chip supply eases.

Nio Inc delivered 36,275 vehicles in November, including a record 10,689 ES8 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The SUV delivered 2,803 and 6,703 units in September and October respectively. September's deliveries likely included some inventory of older ES8 models.

Starting December 22, newly produced ES8 cars will utilize a new temporary solution for the rear-seat entertainment chip to ensure deliveries.
