BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the hybrid version of its Tang L large seven-seat SUV (sport utility vehicle) in multiple Middle Eastern markets, continuing its global market expansion.

The model, rebranded as the BYD Atto 8 in the Middle East, has been launched in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar, with upcoming launches in the UAE and Bahrain, the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced today.

The BYD Atto 8 offers DM-i and DM-p variants in these markets and features the Google ecosystem to meet Middle Eastern consumer needs, providing richer options for family vehicles and urban commuting, the company said.

The Tang L was launched in China this April, offering both the all-electric Tang L EV and the hybrid Tang L DM.

Within BYD's hybrid technology portfolio, DM-i prioritizes fuel efficiency while DM-p emphasizes performance. In other markets like Mexico, the Atto 8 corresponds to the Tang SUV sold in China.

BYD highlighted that the Atto 8 measures over 5 meters in length with a 2,950mm wheelbase, delivering spacious interiors for relaxed and comfortable journeys.

Both versions feature BYD's fifth-generation DM Super Hybrid technology. The DM-i variant boasts a combined range of 728 km, alleviating range anxiety for family road trips, the company said.

The DM-p variant delivers a combined maximum power output of 359 kW and incorporates the DiSus-C chassis control system for enhanced handling in complex road conditions.

To date, BYD has launched nine models in the Middle East, including five plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and four battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

The company will deepen partnerships in the Middle East to provide local consumers with more environmentally friendly and efficient green mobility options, BYD said.

The Tang family represents BYD's flagship SUV lineup within its Dynasty series. Models currently available in China include the Tang L EV, Tang L DM, 2025 Tang DM-i, and Tang DM-i Smart Driving Edition.

The SUV family recorded sales of 13,252 units in November, bringing its January-November total to 144,779 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

BYD's overseas sales target for 2026 is 1.5-1.6 million vehicles, with growth primarily driven by new model launches, Citi said.
