BYD (HKG: 1211) has reached its 20,000th vehicle delivery in Hong Kong, marking a significant milestone in the market.

The milestone vehicle is a Denza D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) from BYD's Denza sub-brand, delivered to Hong Kong actor couple Moses Chan and Aimee Chan.

In addition to the Denza D9, they also own a Denza N9, according to the semi-official BYD Weibo account @小迪快报 today.

Denza was originally established in February 2011 as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler, each holding a 50 percent stake at the time. In February 2022, the Daimler brand was rebranded as Mercedes-Benz.

BYD increased its stake in Denza to 90 percent in 2022, while Mercedes-Benz's share decreased to 10 percent. In 2024, BYD acquired full ownership of Denza.

The D9 is the inaugural model under the new Denza brand, initially launched in August 2022 with deliveries commencing in October of the same year.

The model debuted in Hong Kong in June 2024, targeting the popular MPV market there.

BYD has now become Hong Kong's most popular automotive brand, registering 8,531 new vehicles from January to November, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) and Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) ranked second and third with 7,933 and 2,515 units respectively.

BYD sold 480,186 NEVs in November, down 5.25 percent year-on-year but up 8.71 percent month-on-month, according to data released earlier this month.

Denza sold 13,255 vehicles in November, including 5,707 D9 MPVs, 1,580 N9s, 5,443 N8Ls, 434 Z9 series models, and 91 N7s.

BYD chairman said sales decline stems from its technology lead not being as strong as in previous years, with major technological releases coming soon.
