Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) two locally produced models in China -- the Model Y SUV (sport utility vehicle) and Model 3 sedan -- both saw significant month-on-month growth in domestic retail sales last month, as exports declined.
Model Y retail sales in China reached 47,132 units in November, up 5.73 percent from 44,576 units in the same period last year and surging 141.85 percent from October's 19,488 units, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) compiled by CnEVPost.
The SUV accounted for 64.44 percent of Tesla's total November retail sales in China, which came in at 73,145 units.
Model Y exports from China in November totaled 8,444 units, the lowest since July. This represents a 55.73 percent decrease from October, though it still marks a 318.23 percent year-on-year increase.
The Model 3 recorded 26,013 retail sales in China during November, down 10.03 percent year-on-year but up 299.09 percent compared to October.
Tesla exported 5,111 Model 3 units from China in November, a 52.70 percent increase year-on-year but a 68.87 percent decrease from October.
Tesla operates a factory in Shanghai producing the Model 3 and Model Y, serving both domestic customers and as an export hub.
The US EV maker recorded 73,145 retail sales in China during November, marking its fifth consecutive month of year-on-year decline, according to data released yesterday by the CPCA.
From January to November, Tesla's retail sales in China totaled 531,855 units, down 7.37 percent year-on-year.
Model Y retail sales in China from January to November were 359,463 units, a 14.09 percent year-on-year decrease; Model 3 sales during the same period totaled 172,392 units, up 10.69 percent year-on-year.
From January to November, Model Y exports from China totaled 113,342 units, a 48.59 percent year-on-year increase.
Model 3 exports during the same period reached 109,364 units, down 36.58 percent year-on-year.
