Dongfeng Nissan, Nissan Motor's joint venture in China, has filed for the new NX8 mid-to-large SUV (sport utility vehicle), upping its bet in the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) market.
The NX8 appeared in a regulatory catalog released yesterday by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, paving the way for its market launch.
The model marks the third addition to Dongfeng Nissan's N series lineup, following the N7 pure-electric sedan and N6 plug-in hybrid sedan.
The NX8 offers both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) options, according to its filing information.
The model will officially debut in the first half of next year, Dongfeng Nissan announced today. While no specific date was mentioned, it could potentially coincide with the Beijing auto show in late April 2026.
The NX8 measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,680 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,917 mm.
Its curb weight ranges from 2,045 to 2,245 kilograms, with a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour.
The NX8 EREV features a 1,497-ml engine producing 109 kW. Its electric motor delivers a peak power of 195 kW.
The NX8 BEV features a single motor with peak power of either 215 kW or 250 kW.
The model utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by CATL (HKG: 3750, SHE: 300750).
Dongfeng Nissan said the NX8 is built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform supporting charging rates up to 5C.
The Nissan joint venture launched the N7 pure-electric sedan on April 27, with a starting price range of RMB 119,900 ($16,960) to RMB 149,900.
This aggressive pricing, unexpectedly low, represents one of the major counteroffensives by joint-venture automakers in China over the past several years.
On December 1, Dongfeng Nissan launched the N6 hybrid sedan with a limited-time starting price of RMB 91,900, positioning it as another competitively priced model following the N7 EV sedan.
