Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) has seen its 20,000th supercharging station go live, hoping that expanding its self-operated charging network will help boost sales of its battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

The company announced this milestone today, saying it now operates the largest fleet of superchargers among Chinese automakers.

Li Auto launched its first supercharging stations on April 20, 2023, preparing for its upcoming BEV model rollout.

To date, the company operates 3,650 supercharging stations across China, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.

Li Auto's supercharging piles include 2C, 4C, and 5C versions, differentiated by peak charging power.

Its 2C superchargers deliver a peak power of 250 kW, enabling an EV to gain 500 kilometers of range in 23 minutes. The 4C superchargers support a peak power of 360 kW, charging 500 kilometers in 15 minutes. The 5C superchargers reach a peak power of 520 kW, charging 500 kilometers in 10 minutes.

Li Auto is prioritizing the construction of 5C supercharging stations, the company said.

To date, Li Auto has provided over 21 million charging services, with its charging infrastructure open to vehicles from other brands.

Li Auto is one of China's major extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) players. Its primary models over the past few years have been the L-series EREVs -- Li L6, Li L7, Li L8, and Li L9.

On March 1, 2024, it launched the Li Mega MPV, its first BEV model, marking its official entry into the BEV segment.

Li Auto launched the Li i8 on July 29, its second BEV model and first pure-electric SUV (sport utility vehicle).

On September 26, the company launched the Li i6, its third BEV model and second pure-electric SUV.

The company has experienced weak sales performance this year, with declining competitiveness of its L-series models and sluggish BEV deliveries.

Li Auto delivered 33,181 vehicles in November, marking a 31.92 percent year-on-year decline and the sixth consecutive month of year-on-year contraction.

The company expects monthly production capacity for the Li i6 to reach 20,000 units early next year, Li Auto said on December 1.

Li Auto posted a net loss of RMB 624 million yuan ($87.7 million) in the third quarter, marking its first return to a loss since the fourth quarter of 2022.
