BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has reached the milestone of producing its 70,000th vehicle at its Thailand plant, about 16 months after operations commenced.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker reached this milestone on November 27. The 70,000th vehicle was a Sealion 06 SUV (sport utility vehicle), locally rebranded as the Sealion 6.

The vehicle was delivered to an employee of BYD's Thailand plant, according to a statement released by BYD today.

Construction of the BYD Thailand plant commenced in March 2023, with production starting in July 2024.

Located in the WHA Rayong 36 Industrial Estate, the facility spans nearly 960,000 square meters and reached its 10,000th vehicle production milestone in November 2024.

The plant has an annual designed capacity of 150,000 vehicles. As BYD's first wholly-owned overseas passenger vehicle factory, over 92 percent of its workforce consists of Thai nationals.

Currently, the BYD Thailand plant serves not only the local market but also functions as an export hub, shipping vehicles to Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

In August this year, the plant dispatched a batch of BYD Dolphin EVs to Europe, marking the first export shipment of vehicles produced at this facility.

Additionally, BYD participated in the 42nd Thailand international auto show held in Bangkok starting November 29, showcasing models including the Yuan Plus, Dolphin, Sealion 06 DM-i, Sealion 07 EV, Seal, Denza D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), Fang Cheng Bao's Bao5, and Tai 7.

BYD sold 480,186 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in November, marking the highest monthly figure this year despite a 5.25 percent year-on-year decline.

BYD exported a record 131,935 NEVs in November, representing a 325.91 percent year-on-year increase.

Thailand becomes BYD's first market in the Asia-Pacific region to surpass 100,000 deliveries.
