- China will strengthen capacity monitoring in the battery sector and intensify oversight of production consistency and product quality.
- China will guide battery enterprises to scientifically plan capacity and expand overseas markets in a rational and orderly manner.

China will curb excessive competition in the battery sector, following similar actions in the electric vehicle (EV) field.
The country will accelerate measures to address irrational competition in the power battery and energy storage battery industries, said Li Lecheng, Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), at a symposium for battery industry entrepreneurs today.
China will enhance capacity monitoring, early warning, and regulation in the battery industry while intensifying oversight of production consistency and product quality, Li said.
The country will crack down on intellectual property violations, guide enterprises to scientifically allocate capacity and rationally expand overseas markets, and promote high-quality industrial development, he added.
Representatives from 12 companies across the power and energy storage battery supply chain attended the symposium to discuss production operations, R&D, market competition, and intellectual property protection, according to an MIIT announcement released today.
Li urged battery industry entrepreneurs to resist irrational competitive practices and jointly maintain a healthy and orderly market environment.
China's EV industry has experienced rapid growth in recent years, driving a surge in battery production capacity.
In 2022, soaring battery demand fueled an unprecedented price surge for lithium carbonate, a key raw material, which peaked at nearly RMB 600,000 yuan ($84,800) per ton in November that year.
However, lithium carbonate prices have since declined steadily and currently hover around RMB 100,000 per ton.
