China NEV retail at 554,000 in Nov 1-16, up 2% year-on-year

China's new energy vehicle (NEV) retail sales rebounded last week, reversing the decline seen earlier in the month.

From November 1-16, China's passenger NEV retail sales came in at 554,000 units, marking a 2 percent year-on-year increase and a 7 percent month-on-month rise, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

By comparison, passenger NEV retail sales from November 1-9 totaled 265,000 units, down 5 percent year-on-year, though up 16 percent month-on-month.

Year-to-date, China's cumulative passenger NEV retail sales reached 10.7 million units, up 21 percent year-on-year.

Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs from November 1-16 totaled 618,000 units, a 1 percent increase year-on-year and a 17 percent rise month-on-month.

Year-to-date, China's cumulative passenger NEV wholesale sales reached 12.68 million units, up 28 percent year-on-year.

From November 1-16, China's total passenger vehicle retail sales reached 886,000 units, down 14 percent year-on-year and 6 percent month-on-month.

Year-to-date, China's cumulative retail sales of all passenger vehicles reached 20.14 million units, up 7 percent year-on-year.

This indicates that China's NEV retail penetration rate stood at 62.5 percent during November 1-16 and 53.13 percent year-to-date.

During the first week of November, November 1-9, China's average daily passenger vehicle retail sales were 46,056 units, down 19 percent year-on-year and down 4 percent month-on-month.

During the second week of November, November 10-16, China's average daily passenger vehicle retail sales were 67,312 units, down 9 percent year-on-year and down 7 percent month-on-month.

From November 1 to 16, China's total passenger vehicle wholesale sales were 1.021 million units, down 14 percent year-on-year but up 14 percent month-on-month.

From November 1 to 9, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger vehicles were 52,020 units, down 22 percent year-on-year but up 48 percent month-on-month.

From November 10-16, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger vehicles totaled 78,961 units, down 5 percent year-on-year and down 4 percent month-on-month.

Year-to-date wholesale sales of passenger vehicles in China reached 24.8 million units, an 11 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Tesla's share of China's NEV market in October stood at 2.03 percent, dropping out of the top 10 for the first time since August 2022.
