Deepal, the new energy vehicle (NEV) unit of Changan Automobile (SHE: 000625), has launched the L06 sedan, featuring a suspension system superior to conventional sedans at an affordable price.
The Deepal L06 was officially launched during an event last night with a limited-time starting price of RMB 132,900 ($18,700), representing a RMB 7,000 ($5 percent) reduction from its previous pre-sales starting price of RMB 139,900.
The model is currently available only as a battery electric vehicle (BEV), despite having an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) option at its September 8 debut.
Deepal offers four L06 variants with official starting prices of RMB 134,900, RMB 144,900, RMB 146,900, and RMB 156,900.
A limited-time RMB 2,000 discount is available for all variants, bringing the effective starting price down to RMB 132,900.
The L06 will primarily compete in the Chinese market against models including the Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV, HKG: 9868) Mona M03, BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) Seal 06, and the BYD Qin L.
The five-seat rear-wheel-drive sedan measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.
A key selling point of the L06 is its fourth-generation MagneRide magnetorheological active suspension system. Deepal said this configuration, typically found in supercars, enables full-scenario adaptive suspension firmness adjustment.
The magnetorheological suspension system utilizes magnetic fluid that transforms into a semi-solid state under a magnetic field. Controlled by an electronic circuit, it enables adaptive system functionality.
The rear motor delivers a peak power of 200 kW (268 horsepower) and peak torque of 290 Nm, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in either 5.9 or 6.2 seconds.
The L06 utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from CATL (HKG: 3750, SHE: 300750), offering 56.12-kWh and 68.82-kWh capacity options for CLTC ranges of 560 km or 670 km.
The model supports fast charging, enabling a 30 percent to 80 percent charge in 15 minutes.
It comes standard with LiDAR, supporting urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) functionality.
The vehicle also features MediaTek's Dimensity S1 Ultra chip, built on a 3nm process, to power cabin functions.
Deepal is Changan's NEV brand unveiled in 2022. Its first model, the SL03, was launched on July 25, 2022, positioning as a Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model 3 competitor.
Its current lineup also includes the L07 sedan, S05 SUV (sport utility vehicle), G318 SUV, S07 SUV, and S09 SUV.
