Ford (NYSE: F) has commenced pre-sales in China for its new electric Bronco model, marking the American automaker's renewed push in the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) market.
The electric Bronco's pre-sales starting price is RMB 229,800 ($32,320), offering extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) configurations.
The boxy off-road SUV (sport utility vehicle) is being spearheaded by Ford China rather than its two Chinese joint ventures -- Changan Ford and Jiangling Ford -- though Jiangling Group has promoted the model on its social media channels.
The electric Bronco offers three EREV variants in pre-sales, priced at RMB 229,800, RMB 249,800, and RMB 272,800 respectively. Its BEV variants come in two versions, starting at RMB 259,800 and RMB 282,800.
The vehicle measures 5,025 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,825 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.
Its EREV versions feature a 1.5L turbocharged engine as the range extender, delivering a maximum power of 110 kW. It employs dual motors: the front motor peaks at 130 kW, while the rear motor reaches 180 kW.
The EREV variants carry a 43.7-kWh battery pack, delivering a CLTC battery range of 220 km. With a full tank and fully charged battery, its combined range reaches 1,220 km.
The BEV versions utilize a front motor with 130-kW maximum power and a rear motor producing 202 kW. They feature a 105.4-kWh battery pack, achieving a CLTC range of 650 km.
The electric Bronco will compete in China's off-road SUV market against models including GWM's (HKG: 2333) Tank 300 Hi4-T, Tank 400 Hi4-T, and BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) Fang Cheng Bao's Bao 5.
Notably, the electric Bronco adopts a unibody design, prioritizing urban use.
In contrast, The Tank 300 Hi4-T, Tank 400 Hi4-T, and Bao 5 all feature a body-on-frame design, delivering better off-road capability.
Fang Cheng Bao's new Tai series models -- Tai 3 and Tai 7 -- also adopt unibody construction for urban use.
