GWM's (HKG: 2333) electric vehicle (EV) brand Ora commenced pre-sales today for its Ora 5 compact electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), following the model's unveiling in late September.
The Ora 5 -- Ora's first electric SUV -- starts at RMB 109,800 ($15,430) during pre-sales, targeting urban mobility needs.
The model represents one of Ora's major launches following years of relative quiet in the market, marking its latest offensive in China's fiercely competitive EV landscape.
Specifically, the Ora 5 offers five variants in pre-sales, priced at RMB 109,800, RMB 119,800, RMB 129,800, RMB 132,800, and RMB 142,800 respectively.
The compact SUV measures 4,471 mm in length, 1,833/1,844 mm in width, and 1,641 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm.
It features styling of conventional SUVs, incorporating design elements from other Ora models like the Good Cat in its front face and rear end.
The model will compete in the Chinese market against SUVs including BYD's (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) Yuan Plus, Geely Galaxy E5, and Leapmotor's (HKG: 9863) B10.
The Ora 5 is equipped with a single motor delivering a peak power of 150 kW (201 horsepower). Its curb weight ranges from 1,540 to 1,655 kilograms, with a top speed of 170 kilometers per hour.
It utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from Svolt Energy, offering 45.3-kWh and 58.3-kWh options that deliver CLTC ranges of 480 kilometers and 580 kilometers, respectively.
The model features GWM's third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra driver assistance system, supporting functions including urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) and highway NOA.
The Ora brand was initially launched in 2018 targeting the sub-RMB 100,000 compact EV market.
The brand has not introduced any new models for over two years. Currently available models include the Ora Good Cat, Ora Good Cat GT, Ora Lightning Cat, and Ora Ballet Cat.
Ora brand sales totaled 5,648 units in October, accounting for 15.59 percent of GWM's total monthly sales of 143,078 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
