GWM's (HKG: 2333) Tank brand has officially launched the updated Tank 400 SUV (sport utility vehicle), refreshing one of its most important models.
The Tank 400, like its predecessor, offers both fully internal combustion engine-powered and hybrid variants, competing with models including BYD (HKG: 1211) Fang Cheng Bao's Bao 5 SUV.
The internal combustion engine versions include gasoline and diesel options, starting at RMB 249,800 ($35,090) and RMB 264,800 respectively.
The hybrid version offers two Hi4-T options and one Hi4-Z option, starting at RMB 285,800 ($40,140), RMB 299,800, and RMB 319,800 respectively.
When pre-sales began on October 21, the Hi4-T and Hi4-Z versions started at RMB 309,800 and RMB 329,800 respectively.
The Tank 400 was initially launched in China on September 25, 2023, when it was offered only with GWM's Hi4-T hybrid technology, becoming the second model to feature this system after the Tank 500 Hi4-T.
In February this year, Tank introduced fully internal combustion engine-powered variants of the model.
All variants share the same dimensions: 4,964 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm.
By comparison, its predecessor measured 4,985 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm.
The Tank 400 hybrid features either a 37.1-kWh or 59.05-kWh battery pack, delivering WLTC battery ranges of 105 km or 200 km.
They also feature 70-liter or 77-liter fuel tanks, enabling a combined range of up to 1,128 kilometers when fully fueled and charged.
Higher-priced variants incorporate the third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra driver assistance system, whose hardware includes a Hesai ATX LiDAR.
The Tank brand sold 22,306 units in October, marking a 16.64 percent year-on-year increase and contributing 15.59 percent to GWM's monthly sales, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
From January to October, the Tank brand sold 187,449 units, a 0.79 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
The brand's primary competitor is Fang Cheng Bao, a BYD sub-brand that achieved record October sales of 31,052 units, surging 415.30 percent year-on-year.
From January to October, Fang Cheng Bao sold 146,364 vehicles, marking a 301.56 percent year-on-year increase.
