China NEV retail at 632,000 in Oct 1-19, up 5% year-on-year

China's new energy vehicle (NEV) retail sales returned to growth so far this month after a rare decline in the first two weeks.

From October 1 to 19, China's passenger NEV retail sales reached 632,000 units, up 5 percent year-on-year and up 2 percent month-on-month, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

For reference, from October 1-12, China's passenger NEV retail sales totaled 367,000 units, down 1 percent year-on-year, primarily due to the impact of the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays.

Year-to-date, China's cumulative passenger NEV retail sales reached 9.5 million units, up 23 percent year-on-year.

Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs from October 1-19 totaled 676,000 units, a 6 percent increase year-on-year and a 5 percent rise month-on-month, according to the CPCA.

Year-to-date, China's cumulative passenger NEV wholesale sales reached 11.12 million units, up 30 percent year-on-year.

From October 1-19, China's total passenger vehicle retail sales reached 1.128 million units, down 6 percent year-on-year but up 7 percent month-on-month.

Year-to-date, China's total passenger vehicle retail sales reached 18.14 million units, an 8 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

This indicates that NEVs' retail penetration rate reached 56.1 percent during October 1-19 and 52.4 percent year-to-date.

During the first week of October, October 1-8, China's daily average passenger vehicle retail sales stood at 43,530 units, down 18 percent year-on-year and down 5 percent month-on-month.

During the second week of October, October 9-12, China's average daily passenger vehicle retail sales reached 84,508 units, a 7 percent year-on-year increase and a 38 percent rise compared to the same period last month.

In the third week of October, October 13-19, China's average daily passenger vehicle retail sales stood at 63,163 units, a 3 percent year-on-year decrease and a 2 percent decline compared to the same period last month.

From October 1-19, China's total passenger vehicle wholesale sales reached 1.155 million units, down 5 percent year-on-year and flat from the same period last month.

From October 1-8, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger vehicles were 30,065 units, down 21 percent year-on-year and down 36 percent compared to the same period last month.

From October 9-12, China's average daily passenger vehicle wholesale sales were 76,306 units, down 1 percent year-on-year but up 15 percent compared to the same period last month.

From October 13-19, China's average daily passenger vehicle wholesale sales totaled 87,011 units, up 1 percent year-on-year and up 18 percent compared to the same period last month.

Year-to-date wholesale sales of passenger vehicles reached 22 million units, up 12 percent compared to the same period last year.

China's BEV retail sales reached 826,000 units in September, accounting for 63.7 percent of the 1.296 million NEV retail sales.
