Baidu announced today that its autonomous ride-hailing service Apollo Go has formed a strategic partnership with PostBus, the public transport operator of Swiss Post, to launch the on-demand robotaxi service AmiGo in Switzerland.

The service will deploy Apollo Go's autonomous vehicles in eastern Switzerland, covering an area that stretches across the cantons of St. Gallen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Appenzell Innerrhoden.

Apollo Go brings its latest-generation Level 4 autonomous vehicle, the RT6, to the project. This pure-electric vehicle is custom-built for the AmiGo platform and can accommodate up to four passengers.

The vehicle features a removable steering wheel, which will be removed once the service transitions to regular fully autonomous operation.

Initial testing will commence in December 2025, using a pilot fleet to map routes for driverless operation with safety drivers.

Pilot operations will expand to specific user groups in the first half of 2026, still accompanied by safety drivers.

Driverless trials are expected to commence in the second half of 2026, laying the groundwork for regular operations by the first quarter of 2027 at the latest.

At that time, customers will be able to book autonomous vehicles via a mobile app for private or shared rides to their destinations.

Baidu entered the autonomous driving technology field in 2013, making it one of China's earliest companies to venture into this area.

Apollo Go operates a fleet of over 1,000 fully driverless vehicles globally, accumulating more than 200 million kilometers of autonomous driving mileage.

In a May 14 report, The Wall Street Journal said that Baidu planned to launch its Apollo Go robotaxi service in Switzerland and also intended to introduce the service in Turkey.

The initial deployment is planned for 2026 in Germany and the UK, with the fleet size expanding to thousands of cars across Europe in the coming years.
