Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) today unveiled its flagship SUV, the D19, with the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant featuring a huge battery pack as competition in this segment shifts focus toward longer electric ranges.

The D19 is a six-seat large SUV and the first model in Leapmotor's D series. Like most of its other vehicles, the model offers both EREV and battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants.

The D19 EREV utilizes an 80.3-kWh battery pack -- the largest ever in an EREV -- delivering up to 500 kilometers of battery range.

For reference, Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) six-seat Model Y L features an 82.0-kWh battery pack with a CLTC range of 751 kilometers.

Leapmotor has not disclosed pricing for the D19, but previously indicated the SUV targets a RMB 300,000 ($42,100) price point. Deliveries are expected to commence in the first half of 2026.

The D19 BEV features a 115-kWh battery pack delivering up to 720 kilometers of range.

The model measures over 5.2 meters in length, nearly 2 meters in width, and boasts a wheelbase exceeding 3.1 meters.

Its EREV variant supports 800-volt high-voltage fast charging, utilizing hybrid vehicle batteries supplied by CATL (HKG: 3750). This marks the world's first implementation of integrating both lithium iron phosphate and ternary lithium chemistry into a single cell, Leapmotor said.

This variant's powertrain delivers 400 kW of power, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in under 5 seconds.

Its BEV variant is built on a 1000-volt high-voltage platform, with a powertrain delivering 540 kWh of power, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds.

CATL launched the Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery in October 2024, claiming it provides over 400 kilometers of range for hybrid models and supports 4C fast charging.

The longer range enabled by the Freevoy Battery reduces EREVs' reliance on gasoline.

This year, brands including IM Motors and GAC Group's Hyptec sub-brand have launched models equipped with the Freevoy Battery. These models feature battery capacities around 60 kWh, delivering up to 450 kilometers of CLTC-rated range.
