BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has welcomed the final addition to its car carrier fleet in the near term with the commissioning of the BYD Jinan.

BYD Jinan, the eighth car carrier for the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, has officially entered service, the company announced today on Weibo.

The vessel is named after Jinan in eastern China's Shandong province, home to one of BYD's largest vehicle manufacturing bases.

The BYD maritime fleet is now fully assembled, accelerating the internationalization of Chinese automobiles, the company said suggesting no immediate plans for further fleet expansion.

The other seven vessels in BYD's fleet are BYD Explorer No.1, BYD Hefei, BYD Changzhou, BYD Shenzhen, BYD Xi'an, BYD Changsha, and BYD Zhengzhou.

Among them, the 7,000-vehicle-capacity BYD Zhengzhou was delivered and commissioned in July.

Except for the 4,000-vehicle BYD Explorer No.1, the rest of BYD's vessels are named after cities where its vehicle production bases are located.

BYD did not disclose the loading capacity of the BYD Jinan today. Most of its cargo ships can carry 7,000 vehicles, while three have a capacity of 9,200 vehicles.

These vessels enable BYD's annual export capacity to exceed one million vehicles.

The company sold 373,626 NEVs in August, marking a 0.15 percent year-on-year increase and an 8.52 percent rise from July.

This includes 371,501 passenger NEVs and 2,125 commercial NEVs.

BYD sold 80,813 vehicles overseas in August, reflecting a 156.95 percent year-on-year surge and a 0.09 percent increase from July.

From January to August, its overseas NEV sales reached 625,816 units, up 136.27 percent year-on-year.

The first model to be produced at BYD's Hungarian factory will be the Seagull. Europe's first 1-MW BYD chargers will be deployed next year.
