Shangjie, the new automotive brand jointly developed by Huawei and SAIC Motor (SHA: 600104), officially launched its first model, the H5 SUV (sport utility vehicle), becoming the most affordable model under Huawei's HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business.

The Shangjie H5 was rolled out at a HIMA launch event today with a starting price of RMB 159,800 ($22,470), marking a RMB 10,000 reduction from the RMB 169,800 pre-sales price announced late last month.

Shortly after the launch event concluded, HIMA announced that the Shangjie H5 secured over 10,000 firm orders within the first hour. Deliveries for the model will commence at the end of September.

Similar to other models under the HIMA business, the Shangjie H5 offers both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants to target a broader customer base.

The midsize SUV measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,664 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm.

Since pre-sales began on August 25, the Shangjie H5 has received over 160,000 pre-orders as of today.

The Shangjie H5 offers two EREV variants priced at RMB 159,800 and RMB 179,800 respectively.

Its BEV variants come in four trims, priced starting at RMB 165,800, RMB 179,800, RMB 185,800, and RMB 199,800 respectively.

The Shangjie H5 EREV features a 1.5L range-extending system, delivering a combined CLTC range of 1,360 km on a full tank and fully charged battery.

The Shangjie H5 BEV offers battery packs with capacities of 64.6 kWh or 80 kWh, achieving CLTC ranges between 525 and 655 km.

Developed based on Roewe's ES39 model, it incorporates Huawei's intelligent cockpit and driving systems.

It offers only single-motor options with peak power of 150 kW (201 horsepower) or 180 kW, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 to 7.9 seconds.

Shangjie is the fifth automotive brand under the HIMA umbrella, joining Seres Group's Aito, Chery's Luxeed, BAIC Group's Stelato, and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group's (JAC) Maextro.

Both SAIC and Huawei have high expectations for the Shangjie H5. SAIC president Jia Jianxu said in April that the initial investment for Shangjie amounts to RMB 6 billion, utilizing SAIC's most mature production lines.

Late last month, local media outlet 36kr reported that Shangjie aimed for monthly sales of 20,000 units for the H5, and based on future model planning, it had released a procurement plan to its supply chain for annual production capacity of 400,000 vehicles.
