Shangjie, the new automotive brand jointly developed by Huawei and SAIC Motor (SHA: 600104), has announced the latest pre-order figures for its first model, the H5, demonstrating the SUV's popularity.

The H5 has secured over 80,000 pre-orders, Shangjie announced today on Weibo.

This milestone was achieved in just two weeks since pre-sales commenced on August 25. The official launch is scheduled for September 23.

Shangjie is offering customers incentives based on H5 pre-order volumes: RMB 1,000 ($140) per car when orders exceed 50,000 units, RMB 2,000 for over 100,000 units, and RMB 3,000 for surpassing 150,000 units.

The brand has begun shipping the first batch of H5 display vehicles to its stores.

The H5's pre-sales price range starts at RMB 169,800 to RMB 209,800, making it the most affordable model under Huawei's HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business.

The model will be equipped with Huawei's ADS 4 advanced driving assistance system at launch, making it the most affordable vehicle featuring this technology.

Shortly after pre-sales commenced, Shangjie announced on Weibo that the H5 secured over 25,000 pre-orders within the first hour.

Shangjie aims for monthly sales of 20,000 H5 units and has communicated an annual production target of 400,000 vehicles to its supply chain based on future model plans, local media outlet 36kr reported late last month.

Next year, the Shangjie brand would launch two new models: a sedan and an SUV, with the SUV scheduled for release in the first half of the year, according to the report.

To ensure timely delivery of Shangjie models, SAIC and Huawei have made comprehensive preparations in both production capacity and distribution channels.

SAIC has built a dedicated factory for Shangjie in Lingang, Shanghai, and has also taken over part of the production lines at SAIC-GM's Jinqiao plant in Shanghai, the report stated.
