BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has seen strong reception for its new Ocean lineup member, the Sealion 06 SUV (sport utility vehicle), according to sales data shared by an executive.
The Sealion 06 sold 35,483 units in 39 days since its launch, including 30,483 units in August alone, Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD's Ocean series salesdivision, said today on Weibo.
"It's no small feat for the Sealion 06 to achieve such results as a newcomer," Zhang wrote.
BYD launched the Sealion 06 on July 24, offering both the hybrid Sealion 06 DM-i and the pure-electric Sealion 06 EV.
The Sealion 06 DM-i offers three variants with starting prices of RMB 139,800 ($19,560), RMB 146,800, and RMB 156,800.
The Sealion 06 EV also features three variants priced from RMB 143,800, RMB 153,800, and RMB 163,800.
The Sealion 06 measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
These dimensions slightly exceed those of the five-seat Model Y, which measures 4,797 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,624 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.
The Sealion 06 is the newest addition to BYD's Sealion family, which also includes the Sealion 07 EV, Sealion 07 DM-i, Sealion 05 DM-i, and Sealion 05 EV.
The BYD Sealion family sold 53,279 units in August, becoming BYD's third-highest-selling lineup for the first time and contributing 14.25 percent to BYD's total NEV sales of 373,626 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The latest figures indicate the Sealion 06 accounted for 57.21 percent of the Sealion family's August sales.
The Sealion family's first model, the Sealion 07 EV, was launched on May 10, 2024.
