BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) saw flat new energy-vehicle (NEV) sales last month as plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models continued to decline.
The company sold 373,626 NEVs in August, marking a mere 0.15 percent year-on-year increase and an 8.52 percent rise from July, according to data released today.
This marks the second consecutive month BYD's NEV sales growth has remained below 1 percent year-on-year.
BYD's NEVs include passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles. Passenger NEVs sold 371,501 units in August, up 0.17 percent year-on-year and up 8.93 percent month-on-month.
BYD's commercial NEVs sold 2,125 units in August, down 4.67 percent year-on-year and down 34.94 percent month-on-month.
Its passenger battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales came in at 199,585 units in August, up 34.43 percent year-on-year and up 12.20 percent month-on-month.
Passenger plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales were 171,916 units, down 22.69 percent year-on-year -- marking the fifth consecutive month of year-on-year decline -- though up 5.38 percent from July.
The company sold 80,813 NEVs overseas in August, a 156.95 percent increase year-on-year and a 0.09 percent rise from July.
Beyond being China's largest NEV manufacturer, BYD also ranks as China's second-largest power battery producer.
BYD's power battery and energy storage battery installations in August totaled about 23.175 GWh, marking a 22.97 percent year-on-year increase and a 3.69 percent rise from July.
Performance in Jan-Aug
From January to August, BYD's NEV sales reached 2,863,876 units, marking a 23.00 percent year-on-year increase.
Its passenger NEVs recorded sales of 2,825,802 units during the same period, up 21.86 percent year-on-year.
Commercial NEVs sold 38,074 units during the same period, surging 294.51 percent year-on-year.
BYD's passenger BEV sales reached 1,400,853 units from January to August, climbing 39.44 percent year-on-year.
Passenger PHEV sales totaled 1,424,949 units during this period, rising 8.43 percent year-on-year.
BYD's overseas NEV sales from January to August reached 625,816 units, up 136.27 percent year-on-year.
BYD's installed capacity of power batteries and energy storage batteries from January to August totaled about 180.051 GWh, up 66.84 percent year-on-year.
