Dreame Technology, a Chinese brand known for its robot vacuum cleaners, has officially announced its entry into the automotive industry -- a rare new entrant amid China's tightening of vehicle manufacturing in recent years.

Dreame's inaugural model will be an ultra-luxury pure-electric vehicle competing with the Bugatti Veyron, slated for a 2027 debut, according to a statement released today.

"Today, Dreame officially announces its entry into automotive manufacturing to build the world's fastest car," the company said.

Powered by Dreame's super motors, its first ultra-luxury pure-electric product will deliver the ultimate driving experience, it claimed.

Dreame has assembled a nearly 1,000-person automotive team and continues to expand.

Its inaugural model will establish an intelligent ecosystem distinct from traditional luxury vehicles, enabling seamless integration with users' smart homes and mobile devices, the company said.

Entering the automotive industry was neither a hasty decision nor a fleeting pursuit of trends, but rather rooted in a vehicle development plan dating back to 2013, it said.

Dreame acknowledges that China's automotive industry has entered a phase of intense competition, where the race is on for technological innovation and iteration speed, as well as supply chain integration capabilities.

The company said it will use the right products, strategy, and pace to bring China-made products to the world's high-end markets.

Dreame attributes this ambition to its leadership in China's cleaning sector and its position as the market share leader in over 20 countries and regions.

"We may not be the earliest to embark on this journey, but we will be the most determined," it declared.

Founded in December 2017, Dreame is headquartered in Suzhou, Jiangsu -- a neighboring city to Shanghai.

Its product portfolio spans robotic vacuum cleaners, cordless vacuums, smart floor scrubbers, high-speed hair dryers, and robotic lawn mowers, with sales spanning over 120 countries and regions, according to its website.

In October 2024, reports indicated Dreame had assembled a 200-person automotive team, with its first model featuring an extended-range powertrain.

The vehicle was then in the demo phase and planned for future export to Europe, according to these reports.

Non-automotive players entering the vehicle manufacturing arena were common four to five years ago, as China's EV industry stood on the brink of takeoff.

However, over the past few years, with China tightening vehicle manufacturing qualifications and industry competition intensifying, new entrants have become scarce.

Moreover, in the past year or two, several new vehicle manufacturers like HiPhi, Neta, and Jiyue have entered a state of substantive demise as industry consolidation begins.

BEVs accounted for 69.23 percent of the total NEV ownership by the end of June, down slightly from 70.34 percent at the end of 2024.
