The new energy vehicle (NEV) maker aims to expand its Cambodian presence to 13 sales showrooms and 6 after-sales service centers by year-end, according to a statement released today.
BYD currently operates 7 sales showrooms and 1 after-sales service center in Phnom Penh.
The company's NEV factory in Cambodia is progressing steadily and is expected to commence production in the fourth quarter of this year, becoming the country's first formally operational NEV plant, BYD said, reiterating the previously mentioned timeline.
The facility is designed for an annual production capacity of 10,000 NEVs, which will enhance local supply capabilities and shorten delivery cycles upon launch.
The BYD plant is a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) vehicle assembly facility located in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, with its groundbreaking ceremony held in April this year.
It occupies a 12-hectare site with a total investment of $32 million.
Construction is expected to be completed in October, with the first batch of BYD EVs assembled in Cambodia expected to roll off the production line in early November, according to a late April report by Cambodian English-language media outlet The Phnom Penh Post.
