BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has exported vehicles from its Thailand electric vehicle (EV) factory to Europe for the first time, marking a new milestone in its globalization efforts.
BYD's Thai subsidiary announced on August 25 that its local factory had produced and shipped its first batch of BYD Dolphin EVs to Europe, according to a report today by China's state-run People's Daily.
The shipment of over 900 vehicles is bound for the UK, Germany, and Belgium.
This milestone represents another significant breakthrough for BYD Thailand following its first anniversary and cumulative delivery of 90,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs), the report noted.
The Thailand-made BYD Dolphins bound for Europe were transported aboard the BYD Zhengzhou -- the company's seventh car carrier vessel.
This marks the vessel's inaugural voyage from Thailand to Europe, signifying further refinement of BYD's global supply chain and maritime logistics system, the report stated.
BYD's Thailand plant began operations on July 4, 2024, located within the WHA Rayong 36 Industrial Estate spanning nearly 960,000 square meters.
The plant has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles and is BYD's first wholly-owned overseas passenger vehicle manufacturing facility.
BYD sold 344,296 NEVs in July, representing a 0.56 percent year-on-year increase but a 10.01 percent decrease from June, according to data released on August 1.
Overseas sales came in at 80,737 units in July, surging 169.00 percent year-on-year but declining 10.34 percent month-on-month.
